Kerry Chance is a Mellon Fellow in Humanistic Studies and a PhD student in the Anthropology Department at University of Chicago. She has worked as a coordinator for the International Human Rights Exchange, an academic program in human rights theory and practice, and as a researcher for the University of Cape Town's Social Anthropology Department. She did her undergraduate studies at Bard College in New York, and studied at L'Institut de Touraine in Tours, France. Her research interests include political violence, memory, trauma, media, and critical approaches to human rights discourse. She has published interviews with Edward Said, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, Judith Butler, and Nadine Gordimer. She has also published and presented ethnographic research on media, terror, and September 11.
