Prof. Lloyd M Sachikonye attended Ahmadu Bello University graduating with a BA Hons in Government and History in 1978, an M Sc in Political Science in 1981, and Leeds University, completing a Ph D in Political Studies in 1989.
He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate classes and researched at the University of Zimbabwe since 1990 in the fields of Industrial Sociology, Politics and Governance.

His research interests have revolved around Employment Policy, Labour and Industrial Relations; Governance and Electoral Studies; Civil Society and Democratization. More recently, he has developed interest in Conflict Management and Peace Building. Amongst his recent publications are the book award-winning Labour Unions and Party Politics: Labour Movements in Africa co-edited with Bjorn Beckman and Sakhela Buhlungu (Pretoria: HSRC, 2010); When the State turns on its Citizens (Johannesburg: Jacana Media 2011); Zimbabwe’s Lost Decade (Harare: Weaver Press, 2012), and a chapter on ‘Citizenship and Farmworkers’ in D. Kaulemu ( ed.) Imagining Citizenship in Zimbabwe (Harare: KAF and AFCAST, 2012).

Prof. Sachikonye has served as a Consultant Adviser to such institutions as the African Union and International Labour Organization on Employment Policy between 2007 and 2009, and the UN Economic Commission for Africa between 2011 and 2012 on the African Governance Report (AGR 111), 2013. He has served as a member of the CODESRIA Scientific Committee and serves on editorial boards of nine international journals including Africa Development, Journal of African Elections, Afriche e Oriente, Global Labour Journal and Review of African Political Economy.
