In the wake of Durban's xenophobia outbreak of April-May 2015, there remain powerful forces still operating at the level of social consciousness and the subconscience. In various communities in Durban, the residual problem of xenophobia is a warning to politicians and civil society alike, that the extreme divisions witnessed repeatedly in KwaZulu-Natal could return with a terrible venom. One route to mitigate this danger is the power of youth culture, and the appeal to the citizenry to take more seriously the welfare of affected children.
Speakers:
Brian Minga Amza is a Congolese student at Durban University of Technology and an executive committee member of the Congolese Solidarity Campaign. He is also founder and coordinator of the Florence Foundation, which empowers young Congolese in rural areas.
Mwamba Kalombo Thithi is also with the Florence Foundation.
Sinqobangaye Magestic Pro Sibisi is from Mtubatuba, KZN, and is a rapper, singer, composer, author, poet and writer. He was an Afrikan Poet in the 2015 African Renaissance.
