Strength of nonviolent action, 22 March Speaker: Dieter Lünse Date: Tuesday 22 March 2016 Time: 12:30-14:00 Venue: CCS Seminar Room 602, 6th Floor, MTB Tower, Howard College, University of KwaZulu-Natal Civil courage consists of a number of single actions taken every day by people who fight injustice in our society. The actions taken are motivated by consciousness, even though taking action in difficult situations means also taking risks. The goal in civil courage is determined by what is good for the society itself and not by one's own well being. Struggles of Germans against oppression during the 20th century offer important lessons. Speaker: Dieter Lünse is founder and director of the Institute for Conflict Management and Mediation (ikm) in Hamburg, Germany. One of the main focuses of this work is on violence prevention in social environments, which he has implemented locally in over 40 districts of the city of Hamburg. This includes the transformation of a negative and escalating structure of conflict management to a culture of peace. He has been involved in international peace work and research and published several articles and books with two of his main focuses being civil courage and non-violence. PHOTOS  Back
