This seminar addresses water governance in eThekwini Municipality considering interactions of multiple social, economic, political and environmental relations.
Speaker Bios:
Duduzile Khumalo is a researcher within the NRF SANCOOP funded CLIMWAYS programme. Dudu is conducting research on water and climate governance in eThekwini Municipality with a particular focus on Mzinyathi and the Palmiet Catchment. She has recently begun working on the Take Back our Rivers project in the Aller River catchment. Dudu is engaged in participatory water governance approaches with both communities and the municipality. She has also conducted research on user's perceptions of UDDT toilets in eThekwini Municipality.
Sibongile Buthelezi is a researcher within the NRF SANCOOP funded CLIMWAYS programme. Sibongile is conducting research on water and climate governance in eThekwini Municipality with a particular focus on Mzinyathi and the Palmiet Catchment. She has recently begun working on the Take Back our Rivers project in the Aller River catchment. Sibongile has also worked extensively on informal and peri-urban settlements in Durban as part of the EU 7th framework project: Chance2Sustain.
Catherine Sutherland is a human geography whose work focuses on society-space-environment relations. She has a strong interest in sustainability and resilience in African cities, with a particular emphasis on informal and peri-urban housing, and water governance. She is currently supporting the eThekwini Municipality in the development of their resilience strategy for Rockefeller’s 100RC programme and she is working at the climate and water governance interface in a number of catchments and settlements in KwaZulu-Natal and eThekwini Municipality.
Vicky Sim is an independent consultant and part-time researcher for the School of Built Environment and Development Studies, University of KwaZulu-Natal. She specialises in urban spatial development and planning, and spatial planning and environmental discourse within the context of urban sustainability. She is currently conducting research within the NRF SANCOOP funded CLIMWAYS programme focusing on water and climate governance in eThekwini Municipality in the Palmiet and Mzinyathi catchments.
