Centre for Civil Society Seminar: Decolonising Curricula Speakers: Mvu Ngcoya, Rozena Maart, Shaun Ruggunan, Mershen Pillay Date: 25 May 2017 Time: 12h30-14h00 Venue: CCS Seminar Room A726, Level 7, Shepstone, Howard College, UKZN Topic: Following calls for curricula review and more specifically decolonising curricula, this seminar highlights some of the practical efforts that have been undertaken to achieve this at UKZN. Understood as critiquing assumptions about dominant worldviews, examining the relationship between the location and identity of the holders of worldviews and considering the implications of the context student body in terms of pedagogy, curricula decolonisation provides an opportunity to facilitate genuine social transformation. Speakers at this seminar will provide examples of how they have begun the process of decolonising class room spaces, pedagogies, and assessment techniques. Speakers Bios: Mvu Ngcoya: Lecturer.
