Topic: Countries of the world have catapulted their huge populations out of poverty through their own inventions and innovations. This seminar interrogates the sources of innovation, the importance of innovation, types of innovations, the role of innovation for entrepreneurs and society and the socio-economic impacts of innovation. It also addresses the questions of why innovation matters for Africa and who is an innovator. During the seminar videos of African inventions will be shown.
Speaker Bio: Oliver Mtapuri lectures in the Development Studies programme in the School of Built Environment and Development Studies, College of Humanities. His areas of research interest include poverty, redistribution, inequality, community-based tourism, public employment programmes, research methodologies, climate change, project management and innovation.
