Documentary Topic: Everything Must Fall is a look at the #FeesMustFall student movement that burst onto the South African political landscape in 2015 as protest over the cost of education expanded into a national campaign. The story is told by student leaders at Wits University and their Vice Chancellor, Adam Habib. The documentary follows the experiences of student leaders Mcebo Dlamini who was arrested and charged with serious offences, Shaeera Kalla who was shot 13 times with rubber-coated bullets and others who, fearing the involvement of state security agencies were forced into hiding.
Documentary Producer: Everything Must Fall is a multi-award winning documentary produced by Rehad Desai. Following his return from political exile in the U.K. Desai worked as a trade union organiser, a health and safety / media officer for a chemical workers union and served as director of an HIV prevention NGO. In 1997 he completed his Master’s Degree in Social History at the University of the Witwatersrand. Desai then entered the TV and film industry as a current affairs journalist and soon after moved on to focus his energy on historical and socio -political documentary-making.
