This initiative aims to build platforms for young people to voice their concerns about pressing social, political and environmental matters. It also aims to provide spaces for young people to engage with and promote social justice in their contexts.

Speaker Bios:

Thobani ZikalalaThobani is a BA student in Political Science at UKZN and the KZN Provincial Chairperson of the Radical BC movement, Black First Land First. He is a former Community Scholar at CCS and describes himself as a Black Consciousness and Pan Africanist adherent and a student of the Azanian revolution.
  Dr. Koyi MchunuDr. Mchunu is joining CCS for the Young Perspectives Workshop this year! He is based at SOBEDS, UKZN in the Discipline of Planning. He was previously at the University of Johannesburg, Cape Peninsula University, and is a member of KHM Planning Limited.
Philisiwe MazibukoPhilisiwe is a current Community Scholar at CCS. She facilitates various discussions with community members through R2K where she has served as convener of Media Freedom and Diversity (MFD). She works with R2K to engage with residents on what they can do to best utilize their spaces and platforms.
Sizwe MthembuSizwe is a Masters student in Development Studies at UKZN. He started a society at UKZN to provide spaces for student discussion. These focus on social issues, such as the oppression of groups like women, people of colour, and the LGBTQI community.
Gilbert ZvaitaGilbert Zvaita is a Good Governance in Africa scholar. He is pursuing his PhD in Peace Studies at the Durban University of Technology, under the International Centre of Non-Violence. He holds an MSocSci in Conflict Transformation & Peace Studies (CTPS) from UKZN.
