Dr. Danford Chibvongodze

Dr Danford Chibvongodze is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow based at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Civil Society with over ten years of experience in the field of community development and academic research. He has coordinated community projects and conducted participatory research in climate change adaptation, health promotion, poverty mitigation in rural Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Danford has strong research interests around issues concerning social movements, urban informality, governmentality, power, spatiality and race. Additionally, he has authored and co-authored journal articles, a conference proceeding and a book chapter on issues ranging from environmental management, water sustainability, climate change, and housing in South Africa. Danford has also presented several papers at international conferences and seminars in South Africa, Romania, Norway and the United States of America. In 2020, Danford facilitated the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Civil Society Webinar Series, where invited activists and academics have critically engaged with issues concerning COVID-19 and civil society, the #Black Lives Matter Movement in America and Decolonization in the African academy. These webinar series hosted academics and activists from South Africa, Canada and America. Danford holds a PhD in Development Studies, MA Development Studies and B.Sc. Social Sciences which he attained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and Africa University, Zimbabwe, respectively. He has taught and assessed the University of KwaZulu-Natal MA Development Studies students in the following courses: Civil Society & Development, Poverty & Inequality, Social Policy and Development Management.
