Please join us for a special seminar series on civil society campaigns you need to know about!
One of these campaigns is the Active Citizens Movement (ACM), which promotes accountability,
transparency, social justice, and an equal society in South Africa. It advocates for democracy,
supports whistleblowers, and fights corruption and poverty.

About the seminar: The presentation will provide an overview of the Active Citizens Movement’s
work, outlining its role in advancing civic engagement and accountability. It will highlight both past
and ongoing campaigns, such as whistleblower support, and demonstrate how the movement has
responded to pressing social, political, and governance challenges. It will further examine the
movement’s engagement with formal democratic processes, including participation in commissions
of inquiry and the submission of inputs to Parliament and the Presidency. In addition, the
presentation will explore the movement’s collaborative approach, highlighting partnerships with civil
society organisations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to strengthen collective impact.
Speaker bio: Yashica Padia works voluntarily within the ACM since its formation in 2017. She serves
as an Executive Committee member and part of the communications team. Previously, she served as
Acting Chairperson of the organisation. Her work at ACM focuses on whistleblower support,
Palestine solidarity, anti-corruption campaigns, GBV, human rights, youth, and women
empowerment issues.
