CCS Young Civil Society Event: A Basic Income Grant (BIG) for South Africa?

Following the implementation of the Social Relief of Distress Covid-19 grant to offset the effects of the pandemic on South Africa’s poorest citizens, the debate around a permanent basic income grant (originally proposed by the 2004 Taylor Committee) have been revived.
Please join the Social Policy Masters Class of 2022 for a debate centred on this question: Should South Africa implement a permanent Basic Income Grant? Will this grant impact positively on poverty alleviation and reducing inequality? How will this grant be funded? What are the limits of welfare in a South African context?
