 One Year Appointment – Renewable Subject to Funding
The Centre for Civil Society (CCS) aims to advance socioeconomic and environmental justice by developing critical knowledge about, for and in dialogue with civil society through teaching, research and publishing. The Dennis Brutus Community Scholarship Initiative invites participation from active members of civil society, allowing for exchanges between CCS and Civil Society. The Initiative seeks to create working, networking and training spaces for South African activists in order to strengthen their skills and further their campaigns.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience as an activist or an active member of a civil society organisation / campaign in South Africa
  • A background in promoting social justice, socioeconomic or environmental concerns
  • An interest in the workings and impact of civil society in South Africa
  • English writing and communication skills
  • Computer literacy

Community Scholars are required to attend CCS seminars, workshops and public lectures, and provide regular report-backs on community / campaign activities. It is also expected that Community Scholars will utilise CCS spaces and platforms to network and to develop their praxis. The Community Scholarship posts are part-time and stipended.

1) A detailed CV
2) A covering letter outlining:

  1. The applicant’s experience and interest in social justice, socioeconomic or environmental concerns
  2. Details of his/her civil society organisation / campaign
  3. Reasons why he/she wishes to be affiliated to CCS
